Reason 1: Business Name Doesn't Match Official Records
This is by far the most common rejection reason. D&B cross-checks the business name you enter against official registration or incorporation records, and even small differences — an abbreviation, missing "LLC" or "Pvt Ltd," a different word order — can cause a mismatch.
- Trading names, "doing business as" (DBA) names, and shortened brand names are not the same as your legal registered name — D&B needs the exact legal name.
- Punctuation and suffixes matter: "Acme Traders" and "Acme Traders LLC" can be read as different entities.
- If your business recently changed its legal name, make sure the application reflects the current, updated legal name, not the old one.
✔ THE FIX
Pull your exact legal business name directly from your incorporation certificate, GST/tax registration, or equivalent official document, and enter it into the DUNS application character-for-character, including suffixes like "LLC," "Inc.," or "Pvt Ltd."
