Common Causes of Delay
Delays are rarely random — they almost always trace back to something specific making automated verification harder than usual.
- Business too new to appear in registries. If your incorporation or registration was very recent, government databases D&B checks against may not have fully updated yet.
- Minor name or address mismatch triggering manual review. Rather than an outright rejection, a small inconsistency can simply push your application into a slower, human-reviewed queue.
- International or cross-border verification. Confirming a business registered outside the country D&B is processing from can take longer due to additional cross-checking.
- High application volume. Processing queues can back up during particularly busy periods, extending timelines industry-wide rather than for any one applicant.
- Sole proprietors or individuals without formal business registration. These often require additional documentation to confirm the business exists as a distinct entity, which takes extra time to review.
